***NOTE: this is only a few basics to reading, writing, and speaking korean. It is only meant to help you get started in learning the Korean language. The rest depends on your own effort and willingness to learn C:
Welcome to my Tutoring topic~ Here I will be teaching some basics you'll need to know to read, write, and speak korean, and i'll mainly be answering any questions you might have C: it'll be hard to teach a lot about korean, but i'll be happy to help you with any problems or things you'd like to know about korean to the best of my ability. And btw i'm sorry if my romanization is kinda funny, but i romanize the way i think is easiest to read for accurate pronunciation xD
SOOO here's the basics xD
first you'll have to learn/memorize all the parts of the Korean Alphabet C:
Click here for the Korean AlphabetClick here for some basic terminologyanddd incase you wanna learn to type in korean, download the language pack if you don't have one or just go to the language settings on macs and enable korean (to type, just type the consonants and vowels you want in order from left to right then down)
Click here for a Korean Keyboard reference code thingSooo in order to read korean, you'll have to know all the vowels and consonants. once you know those, you'll need to know how they fit together in order to pronounce the words properly(like the consonant comes first, the vowel is to the right or bottom of the consonant, and the ending sound, if any, is at the bottom of everything else)
Compilation Diagram
(consonant)(vowel)
(consonant)
Ex.
공
(ㄱ=g + ㅗ=oh + ㅇ=ng) = g+oh+ng = gohng (ball)
so to pronounce a korean word/syllable, first find out what sound the consonant at the left sounds like. then find out the vowel sound add that to first part. for this example, you know that the ㄱ makes a g sound, and the ㅗ makes an oh sound. then you would add whatever's on the bottom if there is anything on the bottom, and ㅇ at the bottom of syllables make an ng sound) hopefully that makes sense?xD;
Ex. 2
삼
(ㅅ=s+ ㅏ=ah + ㅁ=m) = s+ah+m = sahm (3)
As you can see, it's just like a small puzzle where you have to put the pieces together correctly 8D
as for writing, it's the same as reading, just put the sounds you want together in the right order.
tip: all these vowels go to the right of the first consonant: ㅏ, ㅑ, ㅓ, ㅕ, ㅣ, ㅐ, ㅒ, ㅔ, ㅖ
all these vowels go under the first consonant: ㅗ, ㅛ, ㅜ, ㅠ, ㅡ
and these vowels go around it(part goes to the right and part goes under): ㅢ, ㅟ, ㅚ, ㅝ, ㅘ, ㅙ, ㅞ (ex. 와, 귀, 돼)
For speaking, it's the same as reading, just that you actually say them out loud xD
for accurate pronunciation, you can use this to help:
http://translate.google.com/#ko|en|just type in the korean and then click Listen
Listening to a lot of Kpop or watching dramas is also a good way to familiarize yourself with the sounds and pronunciations
Once you are good enough, you can start to learn vocabulary and sentence structure. but since that can get a bit complicated, i'll just leave you to ask questions on how to say something if you want to know.<:
Hope this helps and remember to keep practicing!!! and ask lots of questions C:
And please tell me if i wrote something wrong or made a mistake, so i can fix it asap <3
